The Management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University,  Bauchi has honoured the Governor of Katsina State Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Muhammad Ahmad Abdul’azeez conferred the award to the Governor during the Convocation lecture held at the Yelwa campus of the University in Bauchi.

He stated that the University is proud of Dr Umar Radda being the first alumnus of the Institution to emerge as Governor of a State in Nigeria and described him as one of the best-performing Governors.

The Vice-Chancellor further said the award is in recognition of the outstanding performance of Governor Radda as a Governor of Katsina State within the shortest period he takes the mantle of leadership of the State.

Professor Abdul’azeez prayed to Almighty Allah to grant Governor Radda more courage to deal with the security challenges bedevilling Katsina State.

Responding, the Governor of Katsina State Dr Dikko Umar Radda expressed gratitude to his alma mater for the honour bestowed on him and promised to support the sustenance and development of the Institution.

He stated that he is proud and remains grateful to his alma mater for making him what he is and pledged to be its good ambassador.
The Governor who served as the Chairman of the Convocation lecture which is part of the activities for the 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th combined Convocation ceremony informed the gathering that his administration has confronted the security challenges facing Katsina State State with ego to not allow the bandits brought it to its knees.

The Governor informed that the security problem has reached its peak in the State which is why he didn’t leave any stone unturned to protect the lives and property of people of the State.

He disclosed that he established a security outfit called Community Watch Corps and equipped them who work alongside the existing security operatives to checkmate the banditry activities in the State.

He noted that the efforts have started yielding positive results as some communities that were hitherto under the control of bandits have been liberated and normalcy has started to return in the worst banditry-affected areas of the State.

He maintained that efforts are being made by his administration to revitalize the education sector and return the state to its position as a citadel of learning in the northern part of Nigeria. 

The Governor stated that parts of the effort included massive construction of new schools and rehabilitation of the dilapidated ones to provide a conducive learning atmosphere. 
He further stated that he recruited a total of 7325 teachers for both primary and post-primary schools which is the largest teacher recruitment in the history of the state to fill the wide manpower gap in teaching Staff.
Earlier, the Governor commissioned 4 number 250-capacity lecture halls and a central store at the main campus of the University in Gubi.
The Governor was represented at the Convocation lecture which attracted the attendance of many dignitaries by the Director of Administration in the Ministry of Higher, Technical and Vocational Education Alhaji Dikko Bala Kofar-Sauri.

Those in attendance include the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State Rt. Hon Muhammad Awwal Jatau, Representative of the Minister of Education, former Minister of Education Alhaji Yerima Abdullahi Yeriman Gombe, Emirs of Katagum, Misau, Jama’are, Dass and the representatives of the Emir of Bauchi and Ningi among others.
